Neal Thomas 40 years ago I learned to weave baskets from an old man.  He wasn’t no kin to me but he taught me how.  I started with small baskets and then moved on to larger ones.  I make the baskets from White Oak trees that I cut down.  I use an axe to bust up the tree and then a draw knife to edge the wood up.  After that I split the 7 foot long strips with a butcher knife.  Using these long strips of green wood I weave baskets from 12 inches across up to large 4 bushel laundry baskets.
