40 years ago I learned to weave baskets
from an old man. He wasn’t no kin to me but he taught me how. I started with small baskets and then moved on to larger ones. I make the baskets from White Oak trees that I cut down. I use an axe to bust up the tree and then a draw knife to edge the wood up. After that I split the 7 foot long strips with a butcher knife. Using these long strips of green wood I weave baskets from 12 inches across up to large 4 bushel laundry baskets. |
